Boating, fishing, hunting and hiking are among the many choices of recreational opportunities in the area.
Nearby Stonewall Jackson Lake provides boaters with a variety of opportunities including pleasure boating, canoeing, fishing and water skiing. Largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, black and white crappie, bluegills, yellow perch, channel catfish, rock bass, and musky provide a diverse choice of fishing pleasure. (a catch-and-release regulation for black bass,including largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, is currently in effect at Stonewall Jackson Lake). Public hunting is allowed in the Stonewall Jackson Wildlife Management area.
Stonecoal Lake is another very good fishing area. It is noted for musky, crappie, bass and trout. There is a 10 HP limit on this lake.
The tailwater below Stonewall Jackson Dam is part of the trout stocking program. Approximately 1.3 miles of the West Fork River below the dam is stocked with trout. The tailwater also offers good opportunites to catch bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, and musky.
